[Critics say that] GM has poor product quality. GM has lousy management. GM has too many divisions.  …To all of that, I say ‘baloney!’  By any objective measure, GM has world-class product quality, including long-term reliability. That much has been ascertained by independent market research firms, including AutoPacific, J.D. Power & Associates and even Consumer Reports, long a harsh critic of all things GM and a strong backer of almost anything Honda or Toyota.

Jennifer Granholm, Michigan Governor, 6/4/09, Fox News’ Fox & Friends
Look at the experience of Chrysler when it was bailed out before.  It was given a ten-year pay back plan of the loans, it paid it back within three years, and the taxpayers got more than their money's worth back, but the whole point is you have to restructure General Motors and Chrysler now in a way that makes them competitive globally, and that's exactly what we hope is going to happen.  It's not just good for the taxpayers because they will get paid back if you do it right, but it's good for the citizens across this country who have a vested interest in making sure, I hope, that we have a manufacturing sector in this country, the backbone of which is the auto industry.

Matthew DeBord, The Big Money, 6/9/09, “Lest We Forget, GM Sells Trucks”

[Trucks are] a segment that’s poised for a massive comeback and may very well lead GM out of bankruptcy in vigorous fashion, as pickups are very profitable. It’s possible that those who are wringing their hands and mopping their brows over GM’s fortunes right now may have their heads spun by how much money it’s making off a core product in a few years.

Karen Rafferty, Chevrolet Product Marketing Director, 6/10/09, G.M. Press Release

Karen Rafferty, Chevrolet Product Marketing Director, today announced the recent production of the 1,500,000th Corvette at GM Bowling Green Assembly.  ‘The 1.5 millionth Corvette is a great example of how Chevy is America's Brand,’ Rafferty said. ‘For nearly 60 years we have built America's Sports Car and this milestone is a solid proof point.’

AutoblogGreen, by Sam Abuelsamid, 6/9/09

“On Monday, General Motors officially inaugurated the new Global Battery Systems test lab that was announced at the Detroit Auto Show in January. The lab, which GM claims is the largest such facility in the United States, greatly expands on the automaker's ability to test advanced energy storage cells, modules and full battery packs.”
